We’d all been dreaming of a clean make-up brand that didn’t compromise on colour, texture or staying power. Sasha Plavsic understood that perfectly. In 2011, the young Canadian, whose background was in fashion and beauty marketing, launched Ilia. Starting with six tinted lip balms, the range expanded — and is still growing — to include “second-skin” foundations, perfecting powders, cream eyeshadows, vibrant lipsticks and subtle highlighters… Ease of use and multi-purpose products remain its guiding principles.
With at least 85% organic ingredients in every product, Ilia makes no secret of its aim to combine make-up with genuine skincare benefits. Beeswax, jojoba and avocado oils, and cocoa butter moisturise and protect the skin, making a clearly visible difference over time. That said, the brand doesn’t rule out using small amounts of synthetic ingredients when formulation constraints make it necessary, so it needn’t compromise on results or ease of application. We also really liked this pragmatic approach...
At Oh My Cream, beyond falling for a brand and its world at first sight (and inspecting the formulas, of course!), we make a point of testing every gem you’ll later find in our online shop and boutiques. I used to exfoliate my lips in the shower with a Konjac sponge, but I have to admit the Exfoliating Lip Balm is much more effective: I apply a layer to my lips, rub gently, then rinse. "Don’t burn your skin — it’s the quickest way to speed up ageing. Also, when applying sunscreen and skincare products, make sure you apply them all the way down your neck and chest, as many people forget to care for this area."
