Nine months of pregnancy, nine months of changes: hormonal, emotional… it’s enough to put your skin through its paces. With new beauty concerns to manage too (stretch marks, blemishes, sensitivity…), navigating the world of skincare can be tricky. So we’ve put together the favourite products of our team members who are expecting a baby or… are already mums, to help you find your way!
While you’re expecting: switch up your beauty routine and make time to pamper yourself!
For the face
-
Blemishes can be one of the most frustrating skin concerns during pregnancy. Be careful: not all products are suitable for expectant mothers. Avoid acne treatments containing salicylic acid, fruit acids or retinol (and that goes for anti-ageing products too). What can come to the rescue when your skin is acting up? Breakout Control by Dermalogica, formulated without AHAs and suitable for application to all problem areas.
-
Highly sensitive skin: redness, tightness, patches… ouch, your skin is feeling the strain! To soothe and relieve irritated skin, opt for a completely calming routine, such as the Ultracalming Treatment Kit by Dermalogica.
-
In any case, to help prevent melasma, or the “mask of pregnancy”, use sunscreen every day (preferably with a mineral filter), such as 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF30 by Soleil Toujours.
For the body
-
From the first few months, invest in an anti-stretch-mark duo with the Pomegranate & Pumpkin Seed Anti-Stretch Mark System from Pai Skincare: comprising a moisturising cream and a deeply nourishing massage oil, this powerful duo helps boost skin elasticity and firmness.
- Itchy skin? Yes, a slight drop in skin lipids can cause itching. Start by changing your shower gel, perhaps to Gentle Genius Camellia & Bergamot Body Wash by Pai Skincare. You can also use your konjac sponge for very gentle exfoliation.
Skincare to treat yourself to after giving birth
-
Keep using your anti-stretch-mark treatments for now, before switching to a treatment focused purely on firming. Apply it to your bust to help prevent sagging, and take the opportunity to give your stomach and thighs a quick massage, using Youth Firming Body Treatment by Patyka, for example.
-
After giving birth, you may experience temporary hair loss. If you’re not breastfeeding, you can try an SOS treatment with Hair Care Treatment Essence by Hervé Hérau to help repair hair and stimulate its recovery.
-
Treat yourself to make-up that’s quick and easy to apply, like the Pop Collection Palette by RMS Beauty, which brings together a highlighter, bronzer, blusher, lipstick and balm! Add a small dab of Serum Foundation by Ilia and you’re good to go!
And when your baby arrives…
Because babies’ skin is extremely delicate, it’s especially important to choose products with carefully selected, 100% natural and preferably organic ingredients. Enfance, a brand created by a mum keen to protect her children’s health, meets this need by drawing on exceptionally pure ingredients. Shea butter, sweet almond, floral waters and soothing, purifying essential oils… everything you need to care for your baby’s skin at bath time and keep it moisturised with its Soothing Soap for Ages 0–3, Face and Body Wash and Nourishing Dry Oil.
Between changes to our skin and the many ingredients to avoid, including certain essential oils, it’s easy to feel confused or even worried about which skincare products to choose… Don’t panic! Take a look at our “Expecting a Baby” beauty guide! And if you have any questions, we’re here to help, in store or online (at consultation@ohmycream.com).
